UniFi Protect Security Camera Installation

See what's happening at your home or business, from anywhere, without paying a monthly subscription just to view your own footage. Wi-Fi Pros Network Consulting designs and installs Ubiquiti UniFi Protect camera systems — HD cameras, doorbell cameras, and centrally recorded NVRs — for residential and commercial properties across the Edmonton area.

Because UniFi Protect runs on the same platform as UniFi networking gear, it integrates cleanly if you already have (or are getting) a UniFi network — one app, one system, no juggling separate camera and Wi-Fi platforms.

Why UniFi Protect

  • No mandatory subscription. Footage records locally to your own Network Video Recorder (NVR) — no monthly cloud storage fee required to view or store your recordings.

  • You own your data. Footage stays on hardware at your property, not indefinitely on a third-party's servers.

  • Integrates with your network. If you already have (or are installing) UniFi networking equipment, cameras plug into the same ecosystem and app.

  • Scales from a few cameras to dozens. Whether it's a 4-camera residential setup or a 30-camera commercial property, the same platform handles both.

  • Remote viewing from anywhere. Check live footage or review recordings from your phone whether you're in the next room or out of town.

Camera System Services

Residential Security Systems

Driveway, entry, backyard, and perimeter coverage designed around your property's actual layout and blind spots — plus doorbell cameras for package and visitor monitoring.

Commercial & Retail Security Systems

Loss prevention, employee and customer safety, entry/exit monitoring, and coverage for parking areas and stockrooms — designed to meet insurance and liability documentation needs where applicable.

Acreage & Rural Property Monitoring

Gate, driveway, and outbuilding coverage across large properties, often paired with a UISP wireless bridge or buried fibre connection to link cameras at detached buildings back to your main NVR. (See our dedicated [Rural & Acreage Connectivity] page.)

NVR Setup & Local Storage

Proper sizing and configuration of your Network Video Recorder for the number of cameras, resolution, and retention period you need — so you're not scrambling to find storage capacity later.

System Upgrades & Camera Additions

Already have UniFi Protect or another camera system? We can expand coverage, replace aging cameras, or migrate you onto the UniFi platform.

How We Design a Camera System

1. Walkthrough & Coverage Planning

We assess entry points, blind spots, lighting conditions, and priority areas — not just count how many cameras will "fit."

2. Camera & NVR Selection

We recommend camera types (dome, bullet, doorbell, PTZ) and resolution based on what each area actually needs — a driveway needs different coverage than a cash register.

3. Installation & Cabling

Clean mounting and cable runs (PoE where possible for reliability and simplicity), properly weatherproofed for outdoor units.

4. Configuration

Motion zones, smart detection (person/vehicle alerts), retention settings, and access permissions configured for how you'll actually use the system.

5. Walkthrough & Handoff

We show you how to access live view and recordings on your phone and answer questions before we consider the job finished.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a UniFi network to get UniFi Protect cameras? No — Protect can run on its own network, though it integrates most seamlessly if you already have UniFi networking gear in place.

Is there a monthly fee for cloud storage? No mandatory fee — footage records locally to your own NVR. Optional cloud backup exists if you want an added layer of off-site redundancy, but it's not required to use the system.

How long is footage stored? This depends on your NVR's storage capacity, the number of cameras, and resolution settings. We size your system during design based on how long you want footage retained.

Can cameras cover a detached shop, barn, or second building? Yes — often via a UniFi network extension or, for longer distances, a Ubiquiti UISP wireless bridge connecting the buildings.

Do you service existing camera systems that aren't UniFi? We primarily install and support UniFi Protect. In some cases we can advise on integrating or replacing non-UniFi systems — ask us during your consultation.
